Presidential Debate

For whatever reason, I love the Presidential Debates. I find JOY in their quick responses and I am amazed at their knowledge of each other. I can hardly wait until the next one.

Friendly Rival

JOY is a friendly rival of the Valley. On game day, it is evident everywhere that BYU and University of Utah are in opposition. Around 5:00 p.m. there is the text from Howard..."Getting ready for the game. GO UTES." A call from Rick to record the game. "GO BYU." The stop at Harmons was a dead give away. Everyone is dressed in their favored team shirt, including the employees...but that wasn't all... Balloons, cakes, cookies, cheese balls...JOY is knowing that whoever wins, I am happy and can't go wrong.

Utah State Fair

Always a JOY is a trip to the Fair with Noah (and friends.) Grandma and Grandpa made this adventure possible so we are more than grateful for the opportunity. The weather cooperated--it didn't rain and it wasn't too hot. There was ice cream and I SCREAM with laughter. Quite frankly, it is the bright and cheery colors that draw me in for the thrill and though I never set foot on a ride, it is a pleasure to watch my boy have a grand time with his friends. Besides, it is the roasted corn that is a REAL TREAT for me... what would a Fair be without a visit to the Pigs? Without winning some fish? Without having a water fight in the spas?

Happy 9-10-11

JOY is celebrating 9-10-11 with company you enJOY...a little spoonful of sugar plus a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and a let's go fly a kite... Mom wanted to see "Mary Poppins" and extended the invitation to us. Not only was the play delightfully entertaining, the setting fabulously clever, it concluded with Mary Poppins holding her umbrella and gracefully flying over the audience later to be topped off with delicious desserts to be enJOYed at the chim chiminey, chim chimeney, chim chim charoo Marriott. JOY was learning that my mother as a child danced both tap and ballet on that very stage. Who knew?

It is an Aunt's honor to become acquainted with her nieces and their beaus. It was a pleasure and a JOY to meet fine, young men.

Bouquet of Smiles

JOY is having good friends...to be there for you in times of JOY as well as times of trial. Eva certainly deserved to be surrounded by bright yellow balloons all wearing smiles on their faces. JOY was she let me capture the moment in a picture.

Fun Run

JOY was having the day off on the same morning as the FUN RUN. Typically it is in the evening at Bingham High School. This year it was on 98th during the early morning hours. JOY was hearing Noah say, "Did you see me almost win?" In his mind, if you were out front in any part of the race, then you almost won. In my mind, if you finished the race, you're a winner. Sometimes just finishing is the challenge. JOY is the needed reminder that the race isn't over and I am almost winning..."Endure to the End!"

School Daze

As I stepped out of the school, there on the pavement was a freshly painted hopscotch outline. I thought of the song from my elementary years..."school days, school days, dear old golden rule days...reading and writing and arithmetic...." There is JOY in remembering my school years.

Experiment

Noah loves to mix, concoct and create experiments of his own. Many of them take place as I am trying to hurry him out the door so as to be on time for school. Many of them use almost every ingredient in the kitchen. Some of the potions he actually makes me drink......yuk! Some of them are done in the shower with puddles of water left on the bathroom floor. There was the "stick the wash cloth to the shower wall and see if it is still there after school experiment"....and it was. So JOY for me was actually bringing Noah a couple of science experiments from school to try at home and try we did. We had an adventure after school doing the "Just How Dense" with water, oil, and maple syrup and then "Ice Balloons." Together we learned that maple syrup is more dense than water and oil and that three liquids will separate into three layers. We learned food coloring makes and ice ball pretty. Salt melted the ice and crystalized the food color red. Kind of messy, but I enJOYed discovering together with Noah.
